Ep.003 How I turned a 20-30 year goal into something that is happening for me now

FinalCoverArt

First, I want to warn you in advance that I start yelling in this podcast. I don’t know what got into me!

A couple years ago, a friend and mentor of mine–whom I call “friendtor”–were having coffee while discussing entrepreneurship, goals and quantum physics (yes, my favorite topic is quantum physics), when he suddenly asked me if I had a BHAG.

I had never heard of it, so he proceeded to explain that BHAG stands for “Big Hairy Audacious Goal” and encouraged me to create one for myself.

The thing is, prior to this fateful meeting I had already spent a lot of time thinking about my big dreams, goals and vision. I had already created a goal for myself for the future.

However, it was for  20 to 30 years into the future! It suddenly dawned on me, “Damn, that’s a really long time!”

Listen to the podcast to find out how I turned a 20-30 year goal into something that’s happening for me right now by making it crazy, sexy and outrageous!

What’s YOUR biggest desire? What do you want for your life that is so outrageous you can’t even say it out loud? Make it your BHAG and I dare you to share with me below because I can assure you if you have the guts to put it out there right now, the Universe will begin shifting and aligning itself for you to make it happen.

What are you waiting for? 20-30 years like me? No! I will not let you!

Now is the time. You don’t need anything else. You are enough. You have everything you need in this very moment to take the next logical step.

Now is the time. You don’t need anything else. You are enough. You have everything you need in this very moment to take the next logical step. ~Kat Kim

Lovely as always. Inspiring words. My BHAG is to finish the video game that I am currently developing, and start my own game design company, which is where 2014 is taking me. Hoping to release late this year!

Spiffy episode, Kat, and I’m thrilled to hear more.

Matt, you’re BHAG is fantastic! Stay focused on it, regardless of all “resistance” (episode 2..hehee) that shows up and it WILL happen for you. Keep rocking my friend!

I know it’s right because I am embarrassed. I am going to lose 100 lbs this year. I know that it will take focus and dedication but I am determined to get back to my pre-knee injury, pre-car accident weight.

Oh my beautiful Daylene, you will accomplish this for sure! You are such a strong woman and I know that this accident will be something that adds fuel to you and your life. I’m with you girl! #BeautyUprising

Love this! My BHAG is to create the The Draw Them Project

Mission: To increase the social connection,self-expression and esteem of those often overlooked through spoken and written word, art and improvisation. I want to empower people to be their OWN cause. I am training to be a paid speaker, life coach and artist. Soooooooo much stuff going on.

This year, I am tossing my hat into the ring for 2 artist fellowships and am hoping to learn from the submission process and if chosen, to grow into my badass Phoenix self.

Paulissa!! I got chills! I can feel the energy around this project and I LOVE what it’s about! You are the perfect person for this Paulissa. And just fyi, you ARE a speaker, life coach and artist. You are already these things. The training will only add to what you are naturally!

Awwww thank you, Kat. I am getting ready to go big with telling my truth on January 11th as I train for the Truth Leadership Council with the Omaha Domestic Violence Council. Here is the testimony I will be delivering: http://paulissakippisms.com/wp/just-drunk-talk-surviving-thriving-domestic-violence/Phoenixrisingmanifesto

Hi Kim, we just chatted on Twitter and wanted to discuss the issues we briefly mentioned in more detail. Hope you can advise 🙂 TT

Love the potential of BHAG and wondering if it can be used to radically change a long held perception or bias. For example would it be possible to change a way of thinking that presently sees China’s presence in Tibet as negative to one of seeing it in a positive light? That would be one mother of a BHAG,don’t you think?

    • Kat is my first name

That would be a revolution in thinking TT! The potential for BHAG is solely up to you, my friend. Let’s see if we can hone this in for you. What would be a big, hairy, audacious **personal** goal for you, regarding this topic? The best way to measure any goal is to personalize it in such a way that you will know whether you’ve achieved it or not. So what would be a good way to measure your involvement with Tibet?

      • sweetnsour

Hi Kat, surely it would be, given present thinking has been warped by few years of activism in which China is presented as entirely negative towards Tibet. The measure would be recognized by being unable to see any positive aspect of China in Tibet

      • sweetnsour

..as to the personal BHAG guess being able to openly declare support for China in Tibet would be darn hairy 🙂

If it scares you then that’s a pretty good sign you’re on the right track! Here’s another question for you: “Who” would you like to become?

          • sweetnsour

Totally perceptive 🙂 yes it is an unknown for sure, a fear of relinquishing the perception/conviction of standing a correct or morally secure position..as to ‘becoming’ maybe there’s a wish to experience the process of transformation, in a sense becoming an opposite.

          • Kat is my first name

TT, I would ask yourself what exactly you would like to accomplish. Be as clear as possible. “Who” would you become in the process? What impact would you make? What is your purpose?

The clearer you are about these questions, the stronger your BHAG will be. And by the way, it takes time to develop these answers so don’t feel you are in a rush to figure all of this out. Creating a massive goal for yourself in itself is a beautiful journey of self-exploration, learning what really motivates you on a deep, spiritual level.

Kat thanks for taking the time to present those very important questions and your advice to contemplate the purpose with clarity

            Of course!!

Kat, to be able to accept that China has a positive presence in Tibet, in so doing it would lead to becoming someone openly supportive of China. The impact could be that present energy and commitment would be diverted into action to help show China’s actions there in a more balanced and accepting light.

Well what’s holding you back from accepting this truth that you seemingly want so much?

          • 4S

Awesome question that hits the heart of it 🙂 hmmm brain goes into overdrive…..

          • 4S

….maybe a sense of a betrayal of values, along with feeling that the commitment and principles invested up to now would have been empty or wasted?

          • Kat is my first name

The question then becomes.. Whose values?

Nothing is ever wasted. There is always an equal energy exchange. All the time and energy that has been invested to this point has brought you to where you are now, and where you are now is a perfect, divine moment.

Kat, as ever you reach into the core….Right, so the values in question which over few years became fixed ‘truths’ are themselves based on a biased perspective which I took as entirely factual? I’m misleading myself into regarding them as principles of a sacred nature?

          • Kat is my first name

Bingo! Pretty powerful, wouldn’t you say? The key here, is to not judge the previous perspective nor the people who advocate them. You held these perspectives just as they and they served a purpose. The beauty in this is the transformation that is occurring.

The butterfly does not exist without the caterpillar.

Kat you are utterly fabulous! Yes very powerful, seismic currents for sure right now..beginning to feel a sense that I have no obligation to hold onto those old perspectives..dare I dream to imagine that one day I will have transformed to such a degree that I see China as helping Tibetans, progressing their lives? That is BHAG for me 🙂 I wonder too about how to remove the fossilized thoughts, habits and bias which have been picked up over the past few years. Is there a way of addressing that?

          • Kat is my first name

Hey SSNS! Again, what is holding you back from taking on this new perspective? Do you need more evidence? More support?

Once a new perspective begins to open up to you, the old thoughts, habits and biases will melt away. But the main thing focus on for now, is WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Follow whichever way your heart feels the peace. Sometimes it will be different from your peers and may seem frightful, but those who bring about peace are the true leaders.

I’m loving this! It’s the first time I’ve heard BHAG too! Will definitely share this with my friends! My own BHAG is being a credible artist and bagging clients like New York Times and Wired Magazine. Another on my list is being fit.

I am also sorry for the news about your sister. I can totally relate to this as my father was recently diagnosed with cancer as well.

These dreams will require blood, sweat and tears but now that I have listed down my goals and dreams, I know which direction to take. Thank you Kat, for sharing BHAG and not letting go. You give me so much confidence! 😀

Wow Jean, it’s so great to hear your BHAG, and I think it is amazing! Now that I know what it is, I will definitely push you a little harder. =)

Yes, I remember you telling me about your father, and I can relate to how difficult it is to see a family member not feeling well. It is really painful.

However you are a strong person, a rock in the family. Remain positive and keep a smile on your face, and you will continue to be a shining light for everyone.

I will do my best in remaining positive like you.

I have included a few in my BHAG so far: having my own commercial building for businesses to lease, providing jobs to my countrymen and empowering people.

I don’t know how you are able to stand up after everything you went through. How were you able to do it? What do you do to maintain a pretty good spirit?

    • Kat is my first name

Hi Zarra! Thank you for sharing!

And what a great question. I maintain a good spirit because I believe in a Higher Source. Some people call it Universe, some people call it God. I have absolutely no doubt that the Universe is guiding me in every direction I take. Knowing this helps me to see the GIFT in everything, even though it seems really shitty at the moment. =)

When I see the gift, I feel blessed, grateful and humbled. There is no better feeling. =)

Wow! Thank you for replying to my question. I also believe in a Higher Source. I can see that looking at the bright side of things is what helped you maintain a pretty good spirit. On top of that, you never forget to feel grateful and stay humble. 😀
